Marc Pingris reveals reason behind retirement from professional basketball

By Dianara Alegre

Marc Pingris shared the reason behind his retirement from professional basketball in an interview with Unang Hirit earlier today, May 31.

The “Pinoy Sakuragi” appeared on the show with his wife, Danica Sotto-Pingris. Apparently, they have started a farm business, and they both want to focus on it.

“Actually kasi may kailangan din kaming tutukan ni Danica, e, and also gusto ko ring bigyan ng opportunity 'yung mas bata sa 'kin para mag-start ng journey nila sa PBA. Napagdaanan ko 'yun before kaya alam ko rin 'yung pakiramdam kaya talagang kinausap ko rin si Coach,” Marc said.

Danica then added: “We started our farm business na kasi and kung hindi lang din kasi nag-pandemic, PBA games won't be pushed back. On time siya sana. Magagawa pa sana 'yung mga kailangan gawin before mag-start. Na-push back na rin 'yung business how many times mag-open. 'Yun 'yung sinasabi ni Marc na he had to think long-term.”

On May 25, the 6-foot-4 power forward announced his retirement from the sport with a thank you letter posted on Instagram.

He said, “I remember my name being called during the 2004 PBA Draft. Doon nagsimulang matupad ang pangarap ng isang batang palengke.

“[Sixteen] years na din ako sa PBA [Philippine Basketball Association] pero alam ko na ngayon na din ang tamamg panahon para umpisahan ang bagong chapter ng buhay ko.”
